Frequently Asked Questions
Read on to see how the Iron Sheepdog platform uses digital dispatch, GPS tracking, and automated invoicing to simplify short-haul dump truck logistics for brokers, contractors, and independent haulers.
How do dump truck brokers make money with Iron Sheepdog?
A dump truck broker connects contractors who need hauling with owner-operators and independent haulers. Brokers earn a margin on each job for managing dispatch, ticketing, and payments on behalf of both sides. The biggest challenge is doing this efficiently across dozens or hundreds of trucks at once without drowning in paperwork. That’s where Iron Sheepdog helps. It provides a software platform to help dump truck brokers set up jobs, dispatch trucks, set haul rates, track trucks, manage jobs, collect digital tickets, and invoice customers, which makes managing day-to-day operations much easier and more efficient. Brokers still make their margins, but they have more capacity to manage cash flow and grow their business using Iron Sheepdog.

How does Iron Sheepdog help brokers manage dispatch without spreadsheets?
Iron Sheepdog replaces the spreadsheet-and-phone-call workflow with a single platform. Brokers set up jobs, assign haulers, track trucks via GPS, and receive digital tickets, all in one place. With features like a Scheduling Dashboard, real-time tracking, and daily task approvals that automate building the invoice, Iron Sheepdog brokers have all the tools they need to run a successful and efficient business at their fingertips.
How many trucks can I manage on the Iron Sheepdog platform?
The platform is built to scale. We have brokers that started with 5-15 trucks/day who are now able to broker as many as 150-200 trucks/day. Our largest broker partners dispatch over 100 trucks daily through the platform without additional back-office staff. Brokers who are powered by Iron Sheepdog can decide how large they want to grow, and our team is here to help support those plans.
What happens if a contractor disputes a ticket?
Every load/ton/hour worked on Iron Sheepdog is backed by a GPS-verified, time-stamped digital ticket. If a dispute arises, both broker and contractor can reference the exact check-in and check-out data, breadcrumb tracking, and timestamp; eliminating the he-said/she-said problem that paper tickets create.
In addition, the Iron Sheepdog platform gives brokers the ability to generate reports that help contractors manage their workload. From certified payroll reporting to daily cost coding to weekly or monthly load counts, Iron Sheepdog brings transparency and reliability to every step of the process and allows brokers to provide a level of service that sets them apart.
Do I need to sign a long-term contract to use Iron Sheepdog?
No. Iron Sheepdog does not bind brokers to a long-term contract or a minimum time commitment. To get started, brokers sign our standard terms of service and complete a straightforward onboarding process that includes verifying insurance requirements. Brokers who want to extend 30-day or longer payment terms to contractors through ISD Pay will also set up a separate bank account as part of that process.
Once onboarded, you're not required to run all of your work through the platform. Some brokers use Iron Sheepdog for specific contractor relationships while managing other work offline. That said, brokers who consolidate their hauling operations on the platform consistently find it easier to manage dispatch, ticketing, payments, and reporting in one place.
The brokers who get the most out of Iron Sheepdog are the ones running everything through it.The only firm requirement is that any jobs run on the platform are settled through the platform. Iron Sheepdog collects payment for all on-platform work completed.
How does Iron Sheepdog handle subhauler payments?
Once a job is approved, Iron Sheepdog pays haulers directly through the wallet feature on the app and they can cash out to a designated bank account. Brokers don't need to cut individual checks or manage separate payment runs.
