Frequently Asked Questions
Read on to see how the Iron Sheepdog platform uses digital dispatch, GPS tracking, and automated invoicing to simplify short-haul dump truck logistics for brokers, contractors, and independent haulers.
How do contractors use Iron Sheepdog to find more dump trucks?
Contractors connect to Iron Sheepdog's broker network, the largest broker-powered dump truck network in the country, to access reliable and transparent dump truck hauling. Iron Sheepdog brokers already have vetted hauler relationships in place, and they are better equipped to scale based on project needs by relying on other brokers and haulers in the network. For example, it is common for brokers using Iron Sheepdog to delegate work to one another across markets, or call upon other brokers to help supply trucks when a large-scale project, such as a disaster cleanup, requires additional trucks.
What is cost code tracking and why does it matter for construction projects?
Cost code tracking lets project managers assign every load to a specific budget line item or phase of work. This means your invoice isn't just a total, it's broken down by cost code, making it easy to reconcile against your project budget without manual sorting. You can also sort the interactive invoice by cost code or job.
How does geofencing and GPS tracking help me track loads and multiple job sites in real time?
Iron Sheepdog uses geofencing to automatically record when a truck enters and exits a job site, creating time-stamped digital proof for every load without requiring anyone to manually sign off on paper. Project managers also get real-time visibility into truck locations and load counts across all active sites simultaneously, with a breadcrumb view of each truck's movement that gives the whole project team an accurate, complete picture of what's happening on the ground.
How does digital ticketing replace paper tickets on a job site?
Haulers check in and out via the Iron Sheepdog mobile app, which generates a digital timestamp automatically. Haulers can take paper tickets from the jobsite and upload them into the platform by taking a photo of the ticket. There is a reader that scans the ticket and creates a digital ticket, which is linked to the invoice.
What reporting does Iron Sheepdog provide for project managers?
Iron Sheepdog's Load Cycle Analysis gives project managers detailed breakdowns of each transportation phase, including cycle times, truck utilization, and cost-per-load. Reports can be exported to CSV files and integrated with other software, like QuickBooks.
Does Iron Sheepdog integrate with plant scales or other construction technology systems and accounting software?
Yes. Iron Sheepdog already integrates with a number of plant scale and construction technology systems to support direct exchange of information, helping ensure the data flowing through the platform is accurate and actionable. We're continually evaluating and building new integrations, so if there's a system you rely on that isn't connected yet, it's likely something we're already looking into.
When it comes to accounting software, information can be downloaded from the Iron Sheepdog platform into a CSV file, which can then be integrated with other software, like QuickBooks.
