Product Manager

As our first dedicated Product Manager at Iron Sheepdog, you will play a critical role in shaping our product vision and executing our 5-year growth strategy. You will take the weight off the executive team's shoulders, including the CTO and COO, by owning the day-to-day product requirements and manage the roadmap. Your primary objective will be to deeply understand our brokers, contractors, and haulers, define the absolute best solutions to build, and partner seamlessly with our engineering team. This role offers the exciting opportunity to build the foundation of our product organization, potentially taking ownership of massive initiatives like our ISD Materials Marketplace, while ensuring we maintain our lean, fast-paced shipping culture. ‍ 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct deep-dive interviews and research with brokers, haulers, and contractors to uncover their core pain points and truly understand their "WHY."
  • Own the product backlog, writing clear, actionable epics and requirements so the engineering team can focus strictly on execution.
  • Act as the definitive voice of the customer, relieving the CTO, COO, VP of Engineering, and Sr. Technical Project Manager from daily tactical requirements gathering.
  • Continuously analyze the market and our competitors to ensure Iron Sheepdog’s feature set remains two steps ahead.
  • Utilize wireframing, mockup, and basic design skills to visually communicate product requirements to the engineering team and lead discussions to validate concepts with users before development begins.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to ensure proposed solutions are feasible within our Firebase/Node.js stack and align with our lean engineering philosophy.
  • Lead our feature analytics to analyze user behavior, measure feature success, and make data-driven prioritization decisions.
  • Define and optimize fintech workflows to ensure seamless payment experiences for our users.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional product management experience, preferably in B2B SaaS or construction logistics.
  • Proven ability to conduct customer interviews, synthesize feedback, and translate user pain points into clear product requirements.
  • Strong UI/UX sensibilities, with hands-on experience using design tools (e.g., Figma, Balsamiq, Sketch and modern AI design tools) to create wireframes and mockups that guide engineering discussions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to confidently lead discussions on "what to build" and prioritize ruthlessly.
  • Experience managing an agile backlog and working directly with a remote engineering team.
  • Strong analytical skills, with a data-driven approach to product development.
  • Ability to take initiative and thrive independently in a fast-paced, startup environment. ‍ 

Additional Skills are a Bonus

  • Experience in the construction, short-haul trucking, or logistics industries.
  • Background working with fintech products, specifically involving payment gateways, escrow logic, or complex financial workflows.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools like BigQuery, Data Studio, or similar BI platforms.
  • Experience with Firebase or serverless cloud architectures (a strong foundation for understanding our technical constraints).
  • Exposure to or a strong interest in Artificial Intelligence, specifically how it can be pragmatically applied to improve user experiences without over-complicating the stack.
