Capacity challenges are not a technology or a logistics problem, they are a trust problem. Haulers who've been burned by slow payments, unclear tickets, or broker disputes don't come back. And in a market where your reputation depends on execution, the haulers you can count on are the ones who make or break your business.
Brokers have always competed for capacity. From finding haulers, keeping them, and making sure they show up for the next load. The traditional lever was simple: offer better pay. But now haulers are choosing brokers based on how they are dispatched and paid.
We commissioned a survey through 60 Decibels to get feedback from 163 haulers - both independent drivers and owner operators - across Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida, California and beyond. The research revealed that haulers aren't just choosing who pays the most anymore. They're choosing who makes the job easier, who eliminates the paperwork, and who gets money in their account without a phone call to chase it down. For brokers, that shift is the opportunity: when your platform takes care of haulers, they come back, and they bring others with them.
Haulers actively favor brokers who use the platform.
When the survey feedback was in, this became evident right away. It wasn’t posed as a hypothetical, it's major factor when deciding who they choose:
"Everything is based on transparency. If I don't trust the app I won't be able to work with a company. Sometimes I'd rather wait and not work with anyone else - because this is the easiest way to get paid." — Solo hauler, Florida
"I have worked with brokers that don't use the app and it is harder... I have never had any issues with the app [or] payments." — Hauler, Virginia
For a broker actively working to scale their hauler capacity in a market where haulers can pick and choose who they work for, being an Iron Sheepdog broker isn’t just something that happens behind the scenes, it’s part of the pitch before a rate is even discussed.
Less friction means fewer disputes to manage.
Trust issues are real, and they happen between brokers and haulers more than they like to admit. Haulers were blunt about the difference once they started using Iron Sheepdog.
"My drivers complained a lot about other apps but with Iron Sheepdog I didn't receive a single complaint." — Fleet hauler, Virginia
"...there are many fraudulent brokers out there, and these [Iron Sheepdog Brokers] are not." — Longer-tenured hauler, Maryland
Relationships matter, and every dispute is a relationship a broker has to repair, otherwise a hauler might be gone for good. Running on Iron Sheepdog, a platform haulers already trust, removes obstacles before they get in the way.

Faster pay is a competitive edge, not a convenience.
72% haulers said the Iron Sheepdog payment process (ISD Pay) is better or faster than working with brokers off the app.
"There's good communication. Everything is organized. We get paid on time - it's made life easier, less stress, and everything is centralized in one place." — Solo hauler, North Carolina
"It gave me the opportunity to withdraw cash within 48 hours to pay for an urgent expense - with other services I could wait up to 15 days." — Fleet hauler, Florida
For an owner operator, payment speed isn't a perk - it's cash flow. It's fuel, repairs, and making payroll. And it's often what decides which broker gets a hauler’s services next week. Brokers who pay in net 14 or 30 are competing for the same haulers as brokers using Iron Sheepdog. On payment speed alone, it's not a competition.
Happy haulers do the recruiting for you.
Word of mouth is the best and cheapest way to fill up your garage, and it only works if haulers truly are happy. More than six in ten haulers would recommend Iron Sheepdog and that jumps to seven in ten for independent haulers.
"I've already recommended it to some friends. It makes work so easy; everything flows smoothly through the app." — Hauler, Florida
"The immediate access to my funds has significantly increased my quality of life for the better." — Solo hauler, California
When a hauler tells other haulers how easy it is to work with an Iron Sheepdog broker, that's recruiting you didn't have to pay for.
Reliable work keeps haulers from looking elsewhere.
About 44% of haulers report improved access to reliable work because of Iron Sheepdog.
Consistent and reliable loads are one of the key reasons a hauler stays loyal to their broker. Iron Sheepdog makes that flow predictable and smooth, which in turn, directly supports hauler retention.
"It's helped me get more consistent with my work life. I'm now able to get work every day." — Solo hauler, Maryland
The bottom line for brokers:
Haulers have options, and the way a broker decides to operate directly impacts which broker a hauler ultimately chooses. Brokers who choose to operate on Iron Sheepdog start every hauler relationship with trust and confidence already built in: faster pay, fewer disputes, and haulers that are willing to say so themselves.
We aren’t claiming that switching platforms guarantees more capacity, it’s what haulers told us unprompted, about what keeps them loyal to a broker instead of looking elsewhere.
